It's raining because of course it's raining, and Jingyi is curled up in a woebegone little ball in an alleyway that smells of garbage juice and dogshit (that is NOT HIS thank you VERY MUCH he is CIVILIZED). The cardboard box laying on its side that he's taking refuge in is halfway to floating away and the only reason he hasn't frozen to death is that he's refused to wear anything but his fur for the last three days of absolutely wretched weather. His shoes have like half a sole between them and paws don't start to mold if you wear them around soggy for days at a time.

Nobody feeds 'stray dogs' in the rain, though, so he's starving and about ready to try puppy eyes on the nearest butcher or chain restaurant or food cart—

Something shifts in the pile of garbage nearest him and a wave of fetid water tsunamis its way into his poor sagging box and it's enough that the sides finally give out. He yelps, scrabbles his way out of the puddle and then out of the alleyway entirely onto the street even though that's dangerous he didn't even look to see if there was anyone coming who might not appreciate surprise puppies. He scrabbles in on the slick concrete with a whine, stopping himself before he tips over into the street, and whips his head around to see if he there are people he needs to avoid.

He'd been on his way home when he heard the noise and paused, glancing into the alley to see if he could find the dog before it all but barreled into his legs. Which had him setting his umbrella aside for a moment and shrugging off his jacket to wrap it around the shivering dog, if the animal let him. He didn't look to be in too bad of shape, just wet and cold.

Which was an easy fix, all things considered, although there'd be a vet visit the next day to be sure there were no ill effects. Still. "..Let's get you out of the rain and into a warm bath, how does that sound?" And then he's picking up the umbrella to continue back to his apartment.

Oh, look, a people he might need to avoid. The strange man, however, doesn't kick at him or seem particularly alarmed, just immediately takes off his jacket and tries to...bundle him up?

Jingyi stares at the stranger who is apparently one of those weirdos who goes around literally picking up stray dogs who are wet and probably gross in their. In their very own coats. Coats that look...warm. When the man follows that up with the magic words 'warm bath,' however, he's sold. He's more than sold. He wants a bath. He wants out of the rain. Maybe if he's good he'll be able to rummage through the fridge after the guy goes to sleep. That sounds amazing.

Therefore he absolutely allows himself to be scooped up into the weird stranger's arms, surreptitiously sniffing at him as he's carted who-knows-where.

At least the pup seemed to take to it well, trusting him enough to help him out of the rain and once he gets home, he goes directly to the bathroom, starting the water and stripping off his own shirt before putting the dog down into the bath so he can start rinsing him off with the shower head.

And while he doesn't have dog shampoo handy, he does have some dish soap that'll work in a pinch to get the pup clean. By the time he's done and reaching for a towel, the dog should at least feel better.

On the one paw, maybe it is a little unusual that he just hangs out in the tub and luxuriates in being spoiled ridiculously. He was supposed to be a stray, after all and probably strays were not supposed to be super chill with being scrubbed down by equally as chill random dudes. But then again, the guy himself was also super chill, so he really did not see the problem.

He just lifted his chin and closed his eyes and remembered that he was supposed to wag his tail. Hot baths were amazing. This guy had his loyalty for basically ever at this point, and he had not even tried to feed him.

When the towel makes its appearance, however, he decides that he needs to help and starts to do the patented Dog Shaking Off Water maneuver. He's not that big and he's really gangly, but even so! So he yips and starts to try and shake off.

He lets the dog shake before getting the towel around the dog to dry him properly, makign sure to get his ears and legs before letting him out of the bathroom. And then he disappears, finding a blanket for him to lie on in a corner of the living room.

After that, he disappears into the kitchen, eyeing the fridge before he pulls out the meat Mingjue had set aside for dinner, cutting it up into cubes and setting it on a plate. Then he sets that and a bowl of water in front of the dog.

"Tomorrow, we'll take you to the vet, get you checked over and shots if you need them."
